Glen Meadow students earn recognition

VERNON � Glen Meadow Middle School recognized and honored student achievement during their annual advancement ceremony, held June 21 at the Vernon Township High School.

The following students were honored for their achievements:

Aileen Bancroft, highest overall scholastic achievement

Cassandra Roeloffs, Spanish
Lindsay Verrico, language arts

Alexander Gaura, mathematics
Michael Martis, science

Cameron Sparta, Daughters of the American Revolution

Sophia Tremont, social studies
Jenna MacDonald, physical education

Connor Quinn, physical education

Zoe Smolder, citizenship
Christopher Bekefi, "Having courage to face adversity with dignity and perseverance"

Presidential education awards
The President�s Education Awards Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The program was developed to help schools recognize and honor those students who have achieved high academic goals through hard work and dedication. Students are eligible for one of two honors: the President�s Award for Educational Excellence or the President�s Award for Educational Achievement. The certificates were signed by the President, the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Building Principal.

A congratulatory letter from the President and lapel pin accompanied the award. The sponsoring associations believe that recognition for their efforts and achievements is vital for motivating young students to be successful and schools must encourage all students to try harder, reach higher goals and expand their imaginations.
