Severe weather passes through

Hamburg — Severe weather passed through the area on Wednesday, July 18, toppling trees and flooding areas, closing sections of local roads and even damaging roofs. In Hamburg a section of Route 23 was closed for just about a half hour because a large tree was overhanging the road in the area of the railroad trestle and the Weichert Realtors offices. The limbs were cut by Hamburg DPW workers and local volunteers, according to Hamburg Police Director Wayne Yahm. There was no danger of knocking down any telephone poles or of any electrical troubles, he said.
Bigger problems were encountered elsewhere, like those in Hardyston, where sections of Route 94 were detoured.
Downed trees blocked some of the roadways and police were needed to monitor the scene until at least 10:30 p.m., according to eyewitnesses.
