Stephen Grib, a Vernon High School graduate, was listed on the roster as a junior who competed in multiple events for the Bloomsburg University (Pennsylvania) men’s track and field team this past season.
Grib, who was listed as a physics and mathematics major, placed third in the decathlon at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships hosted by Bloomsburg. Grib’s point total of 6,281 in the decathlon at the PSAC Championships broke a school record that was set in 1977.
Grib won a PSAC Sportsmanship Award for 2011-2012 "given annually to one male and one female student-athlete or team that exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and who has demonstrated the values of respect and integrity through a specific action ideally directed toward an opponent," according to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Web site.
He also earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region honors.
