College sports wrap
Casey Quinn from Vernon High School was a senior on the roster for the Slippery Rock (Pa.) University women’s lacrosse team this spring. Quinn, listed as a physical education major, tallied 36 goals and seven assists this past season. She finished her career second on the all-time list of goal scorers for The Rock with 114 goals.
As a team, The Rock were 12-5 overall and they were 5-2 at home. In the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference they went 6-5.
Here's a look at other student-athletes from the area who competed in collegiate sports this past spring season. This is the fifth installment in the series.
Thomas Burke from Vernon High School was on the roster as a freshman for the Salisbury University (Md.) men’s track and field program this past season. Among his accomplishments during the spring, Burke placed second in the 800 at the Capitol Athletic Conference Championship Meet in Frostburg, Md. He earned second-team All Capitol Athletic Conference honors. Salisbury won the team crown at the CAC Championships, well ahead of second place York College.
As a sophomore for the Wilkes University (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) women’s lacrosse squad this past season, Aly Bicskie (Vernon High School) started in all 13 games. Bicskie scored four goals for the Colonels.
In team competition, Wilkes had an overall record of 7-6 overall. Two of their victories occurred on their home field. Bicskie is listed as a biology/pre physical therapy major.
Jeremy Quinn from High Point High School was a junior on the roster of the St. John’s University (Queens, N.Y.) men’s golf team this past season. The Red Storm finished in fourth place in the team scoring at the Big East Conference Championships in Orlando, Fla. They also placed second at the Caribbean Intercollegiate (Ponce, Puerto Rico), the Wildcat Invitational (Malvern, Pa.) and the Anteater Invitational (Irvine, Calif.). Quinn is listed as a business major.
Jessica Mills from Vernon High School was on the roster as a freshman for the Wagner College (Staten Island, N.Y.) women’s lacrosse team this spring. Mills competed in 13 games and posted four goals and eight assists for the Seahawks. She is listed as a biopsychology major. Wagner had an overall record of 7-10.
