STOCKHOLM — The Fourth Annual Lake Tamarack 5K Run Saturday was organized by Wallkill Valley Regional High School cross country runner James Corti, who has done this for several years. He'll be a senior this September.
Proceeds go to the Kristen Donohue Scholarship fund and are given to a deserving Wallkill Valley Regional High School senior in the spring. Kristen Donohue is a former student who was killed in a car accident while still attending Wallkill seven years ago. Her sister Lauren is currently a guidance counselor at Wallkill.
Ashton Athletics, based in Hardyston, helped train many of the athletes who participated in the event. Runners from Wallkill Valley Regional High School and other Sussex County area schools participated. Lake Tamarack residents, along with athletes from other towns ran in the 5K run.
The top three finishers were:
Branden Vanderhoof with a time of 17:08.32
Louis Bustamante with a time of 17:23.86
Brian Frederick-Johnson with a time of 17:59.81
The top female finisher was Allison McCurry, who completed the run in 21st place with a time of 23:36.16.
Medals were awarded to the top finishers. All participating runners were treated to a post race barbecue meal cooked by volunteers.
