The Downtown Warwick Merchants 15th anniversary celebration of Ladies Night Out and Queen for a Day is scheduled for Thursday evening, Aug. 23, from 4 to 9 p.m.
Applications for Queen for a Day must be submitted by Saturday, Aug. 18. That contest offers an opportunity for one woman "to be recognized by her family and friends for her generous spirit, caring heart and selfless nature," said Tim Mullally, event chairman.
The winner, who will be crowned by Mayor Michael Newhard in Railroad Green Park, will receive a basket of gifts provided by local businesses.
Completed nominations in 250 words or less can be submitted to Style Counsel, 19 Main Street, Warwick, N.Y., or e-mailed to timbuktu@warwick.net

Big year

"I have a feeling this Ladies Night Out is going to be huge," said Mullally. "Whether strolling through stores offering extended shopping hours, tasting the flavors of the fine restaurants, dancing or simply relaxing at one of Warwick's many outdoor cafes, Ladies Night Out is a night to join with friends and family for an evening of summer fun."
And to make sure everyone can arrive and leave safely and in style, Windsor Limousine is offering to provide transportation to and from any home within a 10-mile radius of downtown Warwick for $20, round trip.
"We have never had any problems over the past 15 years," said Mullally. "And although we want everyone to let their hair down and have a good time, we also want everyone to be safe. Don't drink and drive. Get a designated driver or call Windsor Limousine."

Event a benefit

Also new for this year is that Ladies Night Out will benefit Safe Homes of Orange County, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate all forms of domestic violence through education, outreach and providing services to individuals and families affected by domestic abuse.
During the event, representatives of the organization will be on hand to provide information about all its services.

Open to all

Everyone is invited although women in particular can expect to indulge themselves with specials, refreshments and treats offered by participating merchants.
Railroad Green will host several activities such as a women's self defense demonstration by Chosun Taekwondo Academy, Pole Dancing, and Zumba Dance Fitness. In addition to the many specialty boutique stores in Warwick, there are also outside street vendors set up right on the sidewalks selling gifts, goods and services. The focus is on women's health, fitness, beauty and fashion.

Call a limo

To arrange for transportation to and from the event call Windsor Limousine at 845-986-8667 or e-mail windsorlimo@gmail.com.
