Wallkill Valley superintendent search moving forward

HAMBURG — The search for a new superintendent at Wallkill Valley High School is swiftly moving ahead.

At the May 27 board meeting, Board President Guy McHugh said out of 39 original resumes, 13 met the school board's criteria.

The process has been under the guidance of the New Jersey School Boards Association, with Robynn Meehan as field representative, and although the company helps facilitate the search, the Board of Education itself is in control.

“The Board of Education has received the pool of candidates who meet the criteria that it set," said Jeanette Rundquist, a spokeswoman for the NJSBA. "The board is now reviewing the applications… which may take several weeks."

Although the board is performing the search as thoroughly as possible, the process moves quickly. Not only has the board narrowed the field to 13 candidates, but a set of questions was sent to the NJSBA.

“We also have a list of 65 questions based upon the input from the faculty, administration, staff, and the public. Based upon those 65 questions, we have to pick 20 of them out," McHugh said. "Each board member decides and that gets sent to the School Boards."

Questions had to be into NJSBA by close of business on May 30. Furthermore, the board had until June 3 to pick the candidates chosen for interviews and NJSBA will arrange the scheduling. There will be two interviews per night for as many nights as it takes the school board to finish.
