Mining history class planned at museum

OGDENSBURG — Former miner and geologist Ron Mishkin will give a class on the history of mining with an emphasis on the 300-year history of mining in New Jersey on Saturday, May 10 at The Sterling Hill Mining Museum, 30 Plant St..

The class will start at 9:30 a.m. and last until 12:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to arrive at the Gift Shop at 8:45 a.m.

The class is elibible for professional development ccredit. All facets of H-Steam will be provided to give educators the background of mines in America.

Mishkin will discuss how ore bodies were discovered and developed, how mining towns grew, key inventions and the evolution of mining methods and technology, and the difference between cole and metal mines, environmental hazards, silicosis and black lung disease.

The fee will be $15 for adults and $10 for seniors ages 60 and older. Participants are asked to pay upon arrival.
