Franklin grants street sweeping contract
FRANKLIN — The Borough of Franklin granted a $5,250 street sweeping contract to Wayne-based contractor Prism Maintenance to clear the winter grit and salt from borough streets.
Of the three bids the borough received, Prism was the only entity who guaranteed to finish the job and sweep each side of Franklin’s 50 miles of roadway.
The other bids came in from the Township of Hardyston and the Town of Newton. Hardyston, who offered a $4,500 bid, only guaranteed five days of work. Newton, who bid a price of $690 per day, stipulated that Franklin would need to pay to fuel the sweeping vehicle and supply a manned dump truck to follow the sweeper and relieve its load as necessary.
The sweeping is expected to take one vehicle approximately two weeks to complete. Franklin Borough Administrator Jim Kilduff said Prism has done the spring sweeping for the borough for the past few years and “has always done a good job for us.”
The contract was unanimously granted to Prism at the April 23 borough council meeting and the project will commence immediately, Kilduff said.
