    Janice Gregory Deiss, 73, of Hardyston Twp. died peacefully at her home on April 25, 2013.

    A native of Sussex County and a graduate of Newton High School, she lived in River Edge, for 33 years before returning to Hardyston Township, upon retirement in 1999.

    She was Director of Social Services in River Edge for 13 years. Subsequently, she taught English as a Second Language at Tenafly Middle School for 15 years. A graduate of Douglass College, she received a Master’s Degree in Spanish from Montclair State College.

    A daughter of the late Addie Paulison Henion Gregory Crimmins and Albert Gregory, she is survived by her husband of 51 years, Raymond; daughter, Pamela of East Windsor; son, Jeffrey, of Ridgewood; her three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jr., Anna, and Caroline; and sisters, Mayona Wyckoff, of Cockeysville, Md., and Carol Dugans, of Johnsonburg.

    Her family will receive friends for a memorial visitation starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3 at St Jude the Apostle R.C. Church, 4-24 Beaver Run Road, Hamburg. Followed by a Memorial Mass at noon. Cremation service was held privately. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon.

    The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation (www.karenannquinlanhospice.org).
