NASCAR driver to participate in the Arts’ Karts Derby Race
The Jefferson Arts Committee announces motorsports professional and NASCAR driver Bruce Sibel will be making a special appearance at the group’s Arts’ Karts Derby Race scheduled for Saturday, July 13 — the 27th annual Jefferson Township Day event.
In 2006, Sibel started working for Stockcar Racing Experience (www.877stockcar.com) at Pocono Raceway as a driving instructor. Then in 2008, he started racing in the NASCAR Historic Race Car Association and presently races in a limited schedule. Sibel became certified as a NASCAR safety inspector in 2011 and currently performs track inspections when he is not working as an instructor or racing.
Sibel will be bringing a NASCAR Budweiser race car for everyone to see at the site of the July 13 Arts’ Karts Derby Race — the front area of the Jefferson Township High School, 1010 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge.
In addition, Sibel has offered to bring a tire change machine from his race school in order to host a Pit Stop Challenge that would be open to anyone over 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the Arts’ Karts Derby Race. Participants would be timed taking a tire off a simulator and putting it back on to the tire change machine.
Sibel will give the winner of the contest (the person with the fastest time) a gift certificate for a three-lap ride at Pocono International Raceway valued at $139.
Information and registration details for children 5 to 12 years old wishing to participate in the Arts’ Karts Derby Race are available at www.jeffersonarts.org or by calling Race Chairman George Damerel at 973-697-8898.
Arts Committee members with a fully constructed Arts' Kart will be in front of Frank's Pizza in the A&P Shopping Center on Berkshire Valley Road in the Milton/Oak Ridge section of Jefferson Township from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 18 and 19.
