Singers go on retreat
ANDOVER — Harmony in Motion, a women’s a cappella chorus based in Sussex County, recently spent an inspiring and educational weekend retreat together at St. Mary’s Villa in Sloatsburg, NY. A large majority of their fifty members were involved with intensive voice and performance training from April 19-21.
This annual event is a highlight of the year, and they were again fortunate to be under the direction of dynamic singing coach, Lisbet Duponte.
She proved to be exceptional in helping each chorus member not only find their voice and become stand-alone singers, but also to become better performers for their audiences.
She also shared her expertise with Harmony in Motion’s director Pat Smith and assistant director Ruth Perry, in their respective roles with the chorus. Lisbet has decades of coaching and directing experience with women’s a cappella choruses who sing four-part harmony in the barbershop style.
Although the weekend’s primary focus was on working hard to improve their singing and performing skills, the chorus also had some down time on Saturday evening. In keeping with the theme of their upcoming big show, “A Fabulous 50s Reunion” scheduled for Oct. 6 at Newton High School, they shared laughter and fun as various parodies of music from the 1950’s were written and performed by these creative women.
New singers are always welcome to join this upbeat women’s chorus of all ages and all walks of life.
Weekly rehearsals are held each Monday at 7 p.m. at Bristol Glen on Route 206 south of Newton.
Women who enjoy singing, performing, and learning about music are invited to come to a rehearsal and experience the fun of this craft.
