Tips to keep the home smelling fresh and feeling clean
Springtime means a return to spending days outdoors, soaking up the sun and breathing in the fresh air. However, with so much more time being spent outside, it’s easy to forget that the inside of the home may be getting neglected and collecting less-than-fresh scents of its own.
This spring, homeowners can keep their homes smelling fresh and feeling clean, with these quick and simple tips below from Bissell's lifestyle expert, Evette Rios.
Quick Tips to Keep Every Room Smelling Fresh
If the garbage disposal is still giving off the smell of last night’s dinner, run a lemon peel or orange peel through it to eliminate the odor.
Hide dryer sheets under couch or chair cushions, underneath mattresses and inside pillow cases. The dryer sheets will give off a laundry-fresh scent.
Carpet fibers are often an overlooked spot that trap unwanted smells. Use a deodorizing carpet powder, like Febreze Carpet Deodorizing Powders, to freshen fast. Just sprinkle the powder on carpets, wait for a few minutes, and vacuum as usual. Not only does the powder help pick up dirt and hair, it also leaves behind a light, fresh scent.
Put a dab of vanilla extract on light bulbs when the lights are off. Once the lights are turned on, the bulb will heat up the extract and let off a delicious smell.
If your basement has a moldy smell, cut an onion in half, place it on a plate, and leave it overnight. The onion smell eventually goes away and neutralizes the moldy odor.
Potted plants aren’t just for looks; they’re also natural air purifiers. Some of the best are different kinds of palm trees, orchids and peace lilies.
If you’ve got a cat that you love but hate the odor its litter box gives off, mix tea leaves in with the litter. It will help to neutralize the smell.
