Crystal Springs holds member appreciation tournament

HAMBURG — The fourth annual Crystal Springs Member Appreciation Tournament on July 17 added a putting contest, which was run by Chris Pagliaro.

In this competition, all players had two opportunities to putt their golf ball with the hopes of either winning closest to the hole or into the hole. Two golfers, Pat Egan and Fred Carballo, sunk their lengthly puts to earn a $100 resort card.

Despite the heat, the event attracted a full compement of golvers who in a two person scramble on the Crystal Springs Golf Course. In this event, each member of the two-person team hit their golf ball and then proceeded to play the best of the two balls. Players followed following procedure through the completion of the hole for the entire 18 hole event.

After the event, the golfers gathered under a tent on the croquet course in front of the Grand Cascades Hotel for a buffet dinner, cold adult beverages and to honor the winners of the event.

First place honors were captured by the team of Denis Mcguire and Bret Trenkmann with an outstanding score of 59. The team of Ray Rafferty and Joe Smith claimed 2nd place with a score of 68.

First place Women’s honors went to the team of Joan Huffine and Mary Lou Nicoletti with a score of 85, while the Senior Division prize went to Bill Smielewski and Neal Terwilliger with a score of 3-under par 69. Joe Green and Mark Kurtz captured second place in the Senior Division. Bob Tschinkel won the closest to the pin contest on hole No. 5 with a shot that landed 4-feet-9-inches from the pin and John Anistranski won closest to the pin on hole No. 2 with a shot 5-feet-9-inches from the hole. Long drive honors for the men went to Jim Klose and Donna Wallerius was the long drive winner for the ladies on hole No. 2. Biran Clarke was the long-drive winner for the men.

For those interested in joining the Crystal Springs Golf Resort, the Fourth Annual Sussex County Long Drive Championship has begun qualifiers at the Black Bear Golf Club with those who qualify competing for the Championship in September. The next Member-Appreciation Tournament will take place at the Great Gorge Country Club on Aug. 21.
