Film deals with addiction recovery
LAFAYETTE — The Center for Prevention and Counseling (CFPC) is once again partnering with Unity Church of Sussex County to air a newly released documentary film, “The Anonymous People,” in Lafayette for public viewing.
The initial screening of the film in September, was met with such great attendance, that it was a natural decision to offer the public another opportunity to see the film.
All are invited to attend on Saturday evening, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. at Unity Church of Sussex County which is located at 25 Mudcut Road, Lafayette.
“The Anonymous People” film, with its own Facebook page, is changing conversations about addiction from problems to solutions.
The film has been airing throughout the country in all different communities, venues and settings while offering a look at a passionate new public recovery movement, fueling a changing conversation aiming to transform public opinion, finally shifting problematic policy toward lasting recovery solutions.
The film’s Web site quotes, “There are over 23.5 million Americans living in long-term recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction. Just like women with breast cancer, or people with HIV/AIDS, courageous addiction-recovery advocates are starting to come out of the shadows to tell their true stories while maintaining a deep respect and admiration for the long-standing, beautiful tradition of anonymity at the level of film in accordance with 12-Step Fellowships.”
CFPC purchased this film when it was released in September with public performance rights after hearing about its incredible success on social media Web sites throughout the last year.
Understanding that this film was a very important as well as progressive resource available, as it encouraged discussions reducing stigmas associated with substance use disorders, CFPC felt very strongly that their agency should be instrumental in offering this to the Sussex County community.
