Jeffeson plans Veterans Day service

    Jefferson Township will have a Veterans Day service on Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Municipal Complex on Weldon Road.

    Mayor Russell Felter will be the master of ceremonies. The Jefferson Township High School Band will play a medley of military songs as a prelude to the observance. Tyrone Franklin will lead those present singing the National Anthem.

    Guest Speakers will be Brigadier General John J. Mc Guiness, commanding general of the Picatinny Arsenal; Commander James Amos, N.J. Department American Legion and Brigadier General John J. Elam, commander, 102nd Training Division, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

    Robert C. Pridgen of American Legion Post No. 245 will be honored by the township and the American Legion for his 50 years of service to our Country and Community. Students of the third, fourth and fifth grades from the White Rock School, under the direction of Ms Jan Courtney, will give a performance of patriotic songs.

    Members of the Police Pipes and Drums of Morris County also will be present and will play several selections during the placing of wreathes at the monuments. Refreshments will be served in the Municipal Building after the observance.

    Parking is available in the Municipal Complex parking lot and in the Recycling Center any time during the day. Parking is not permitted on Weldon Road.

    Everyone is invited to attend the observance to honor all Veterans living or dead.
