Wallkill Valley students to perform 'Crazy For You'

| 03 Feb 2014 | 10:30

The Wallkill Valley Regional High School Drama Department will present "Crazy for You" on Saturday, March 7-8 at 7:30 p.m. each night and on Sunday, March 9 at 3 p.m.

Performances will take place at the school, located on Grumm Road.

The Tony-award winning show, is set in the 1930s when New York banker and aspiring dancer Bobby Childs (Robert Piper) is sent to Deadrock, Nev., to foreclose on the local theatre. It is there that he meets Polly Baker (Courtney Berado), the ‘only woman in Deadrock’, and falls in love, but she wants nothing to do with him. Throw in several love twists in the form of: Irene (Megan Good), Bobby’s fiancé; Lank (Evin Cooper), Polly’s suitor, and the producer, Zangler (Dylan Koch) who’s in love with his dance captain Tess (Erin Hackett), and you have the perfect venue to showcase Gershwin ballads. Balance that with large dance numbers that ‘tap’ till you drop, and “Crazy for You” promises to please. The musical showcases musical favorites of George and Ira Gershwin such as “Embraceable You," “I’ve Got Rhythm” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me."

Wallkill held auditions in November and the cast, crew and orchestra are already in full swing production. Students, staff and volunteers, are busy creating both a set of the old West and one of New York City, rehearsing six days a week, learning dance numbers and practicing music and songs. The production is under the co-direction of Christine Molnar and Mrs. Lindsay McAloney, with choreography by Denise Kulhan and instrumental direction by John Zatorski. Set construction is all being done in house under the direction of Michael Napovier.
