Pianists perform at Warwick church

Mikhaila Sanchez and Maya Rakoczy were two of several students who performed at a piano recital April 5th at the Calvary Baptist Church in Warwick, N.Y.

In addition, they were two of the four students selected from the piano studio of Ed and Margaret Korczynski to perform at the Walter Engel Festival in Ridgewood. The Festival honors the founder, Walter Engel, who himself was a great musician, and an avid supporter of young performers.

Mikhaila is 14, a resident of Hamburg, and is home schooled.

She has been studying piano for nine years with Margaret Korczynski. She participates in the National Guild of Musicians evaluations. In the past, she has participated in the Sussex County Music Foundation Competition, and donates her time by playing for her church’s Vacation Bible Study, and camp. A well rounded student, she plays soccer, is a member of 4H, and is an avid reader and short story writer.

Maya is 13, and in the eighth grade at the Glen Meadow School in Vernon. She has been studying piano with Korczynski for the past eight years. She also participates in the National Guild of Musicians evaluations. In the past she has also participated in The Sussex County Music Foundation Competition. Maya is an excellent student who plays in the school orchestra, is a peer leader, loves writing and reading, and is bilingual
