Sussex County Technical School students won 49 medals in 24 contest areas at the New Jersey SkillsUSA State Competitions on April 4 in Somerset.

Several of the gold medal winners will advance to the SkillsUSA National Championships in Kansas City, Mo., in June.

SkillsUSA is a national organization with more than 330,000 members that partners with vocational technical schools with business and industries all over the world. At Sussex Tech, SkillsUSA is the biggest club in the school and every student is eligible to participate.

The club is supervised by Ralph Starace, Cathy Patterson and Tara West. There were 15 additional chaperones and 165 students travled to the competition.
