Primary elections scheduled for Tuesday
Area voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, June 3, for both Republican and Democratic nominations in November's general election.
The most highly contested election this year will be in Franklin borough where four Republicans will battle for two spots on the November ballot.
They will be running to replace Mark Zschack, whose term is expiring and is not seeking re-election. Incumbent Joseph Limon will seek to retain his seat on the council.
Looking to unseat Limon or fill the other soon-to-be-open spot on the council are Robert D. Dabinett, who is running on a platform promoting his experience as a former councilman and chairman of the Recreation Committee. Judith Stampone, the owner of La Mirage salon, is running on a platform of New Vision New Direction and Michael Rathbun.
The winners will face Patricia Rowlett, who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination in November.
In Lafayette, Gregory Corcoran, Alan Henderson and Todd Deming will face each other for two Republican nominations to the Township Committee.
Ogdensburg Mayor Steve Ciasullo is unopposed for the Republican nomination for another four-year term and Peter G. Opilla is unopposed for a three-year term on the council. No one has declared themselves for a nomination in either party for the other open seat.
In Hamburg, Mayor Paul Marino is unopposed for the Republican nomination. In Hardyston, Frank Cicerale and Leslie Hamilton are unopposed for two seats.
Countywide, Wantage Committeeman Ronald Bassani will face incumbent Philip R. Crabb for the Republican nomination for a three-year term on the board. The winner of the primary will face Democrat Bill Weightman in November.
On the federal level, four Republicans, Richard J. Pezzullo, Murray Sabrin, Jeff Bell and Brian D. Goldberg will square off for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Sen. Cory Brooker for his six-year term.
In the House of Representatives, two Democrats, Diane Sare and Roy Cho, will face each other in a primary to challenge U.S. Rep Scott Garrett for his 5th District seat.
There will be two primaries for the 11th District seat in the House. Republicans Rick VanGlahn and Rodney P. Frelinghuysen will vie for the nomination while Lee Anne Brogowski, Brian Murphy andn Mark Dunek will face off for the Democratic nomination.
