Crystal Springs Brews & Birdies Golf Tournament & Beer Festival was once again a popular attraction on Saturday, June 14 at the Wild Turkey Golf Club and Beer Festival under the tent on the 9th hole of Cascades Golf Course.

More than 150 golfers competed in this year’s event vying for prizes that included a case of beer, golf equipment and accessories.

The event was competed as a two-player team scramble in which each team member hit their golf shot and the players then played the best ball of the two through each hole's completion and for the 18-hole round. The top two teams with the lowest gross scores and the team with the lowest net score qualified to compete in a championship shootout held at the Beer Festival on the ninth hole of the Cascades Golf Course.

The shootout featured a sudden death format with all qualifiers hitting their shots to the ninth green at Cascades and then playing the best ball for each team until each team holed out. The team with the highest number of strokes to hole out was eliminated from the competition.

The remaining two teams then were required to play a chip shot to the hole with the team that was able to hole out with the least number of strokes declared the winner. Joe Shields of Pearl River was able to hole out an eight-foot put to capture the championship with teammate Mike Clohessy from West New York, New Jersey.
