The Wallkill Valley Regional High School Board of Education approved a request from the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 57, to use the school gymnasium as a professional wrestling venue at the June 25 meeting.

Ptl. William Grissom of the Franklin Borough Police Dept. said the gym would be used on Oct. 3 for a wrestling event run by the East Coast Professional Wrestling Alliance. Five matches are scheduled take place, with an intermission to allow time for autographs/photographs with the wrestlers.

Lafayette Middle School has welcomed the wrestling alliance into its gym every year.

“The event will showcase several pro wrestlers which will attract young and adult audiences," Grissom said. "The fundraiser will assist our non-profit organization in raising money for several local organizations and charities we support, such as the Wallkill Valley Scholarship Fund, Wallkill Valley Softball League, March of Dimes, local families throughout Sussex County area."

Grissom intends to print 500 tickets for the event, and expects about that many to attend, but does not oppose the idea of more. The Wallkill Valley gym is one of the largest in Sussex County and is able to hold 1,800 people.

The board also voted to waive all fees associated with using the gym for the event.
