David Martin, Sussex County Community College adjunct professor of music, recently received the Monmouth University William Roberts Charitable Foundation Outstanding Teaching Award for 2014.

The Monmouth University William Roberts Outstanding Teaching Award recognizes outstanding secondary teachers who served as mentors and contributed to the education of current Monmouth University students.

Each year, Monmouth University seniors are invited to nominate a secondary teacher who had a significant effect on their educational and personal developments. Seniors submit a nomination form describing why their nominee deserves the award. These nominations are reviewed by a committee, who then determines which nominees are invited to accept and apply for the award. Each honoree received an award of $1,500 and every nominated teacher received a certificate of recognition.

Martin was nominated by a former student while teaching at Hanover Park High, where he served for nearly 30 years as associate director of bands and brass specialist.
