Franklin boy scouts attend camporee

FRANKLIN — Franklin Troop 90 attended the Patriots Path Spring Camporee at Riversbend Camp Ground in Walpack.

This was a council event with a theme of Skills and Thrills, which consisted of different event stations for the scouts to practice and sharpen their skills with nine Sussex District troops in attendance.

The Franklin troop arrived Friday night, setting up camp with eight boys and four adults. In the morning, the boys went to each of the eight stations which included knot tying, tug of war, first aid, and others. After lunch, all the boys in the troop organized an ultimate frisbee game and then a football game. After they played for a while, they challenged the troop camped next to them and finished the afternoon out with a troop vs. troop game.

After a "hobo dinner" — hamburger cooked in tin foil with different fruits and vegetables over an open charcoal fire — the troop went to the council area for a community campfire. At the campfire, the troop shared a Scouts Own (reverent ceremony), then each of the troops did their own skit, and sang songs together as a group.

After campfire, the troop returned back to its campsite and shared a campfire with the troop it played football with earlier in the afternoon, had some interactive conversation, shared some stories, and did its troop outing conclusion of “Rose/Bud/Thorn," where they boys (both troops) describe what they liked about the campout, did not like about the campout, and what they were looking forward to.
