Ogdensburg school board makes changes for 2014-15

OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg School Board of Education made several appointments at its meeting on July 15.

The board appointed Stephanie Bonaparte to the role of acting superintendent and principal for July and August. Interim superintendent Ernest Palestis will begin his tenure as interim superintendent and principal starting Sept. 1.

Board of Education President Ricardo Rojas announced he assigned Stacy Walsh to the Facilities/Finance Committee, replacing Peter Egan. The board also appointed Leanne Paolizzi as the Child Study Team coordinator for the 2014-15 school year for an annual stipend of $5,500. Michelle Marchionda was appointed as a substitute nurse for the 2014-15 school year. The 10-month position fetches daily stipend of $150 per day on an emergency basis if reqiuired.

Michelle Telischak was appointed to the 12-month position of Supervisor of Instruction at an annual salary of $72,000 per year with tuition reimbursement at the William Paterson graduate rate. She is not to exceed nine credits per school year. Her term will begin on Sept. 1.

Kristen Purser was appointed as basic skills/academic suport teacher at step 1, for an annual Salary of $48,320,, starting Sept. 1.

Projects
The school will renovate the library and media center with new carpet being installed, new rectangular and round tables are being built, and 24 new ergonomic chairs are being orderd. New books were ordered and a fresh coat of paint was applied. The district's goal is to have the project done before the school year begins.

The Parent Teacher Organization donated two smartboards for the 2014-15 school year.

The district also is working on a new communications project. Avaya, a new telephone system, Bogen Public Address system, and New Masters Clock System are being installed this summer. These systems are expected to provide greater connection to emergency services.

Bonaparte announced that Ogdensburg school district's new website — www.obboe.org — is going to be used on a trial basis.

The Board of Education hopes to have most of the projects completed by the end of the 2015 summer.
