Ogdensburg school district prepares for new school year
OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg School Board of Education set its district goals to enrich the school climate and culture for the 2014-15 school year, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
The district also is working on improving the security procedures in place.
Some goals for the board are to provide ongoing professional training to increase the board’s effectiveness; to look for opportunities for joint projects with regional and local partners. This will be an ongoing undertaking.
Michelle Telischak, the new supervisor of instruction was changed to Aug. 18. Her annual salary will be prorated through June 30, 2015.
The school board appointed Mary Lou Didia, as part-time Library/Media Specialistat the annual salary of $24,633. Dominick Demsk, Robert Manning and Thomas Washer were appointed as substitute custodians at a pay rate of $13.47 per hour.
The school board approved the special education tuition agreement for the 2014-15 school year to the Franklin Borough School at an annual rate of $31,171.55.
The board accepted the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act Preschool and Basic Grant awards for the fiscal year as well as the No Child Left Behind Act grant award for 2014-15 Grant award.
Acting Superintendent/Principal Stephanie Bonaparte disccues the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge exam.
This tests the student’s accomplishments in knowledge and critical thinking skills in math, science, and language arts. Bonaparte said there was an improvement in the test scores compared to last year.
"This is as true testament of the teachers and students hard work," Bonaparte said.
She said 25 computers will be added to the classrooms and five computers will be added in the library for the teacher’s use.
Bonaparte also said the training for the new teachers was held the week of August 18, 2014. Bonaparte also thanked Paul Kane, who donated his time and effort preserving the mural on the library wall.
Bonaparte’s goal is to have the new website complete for the 2014-15 school year. Everyone will have access to all the information, activities, and photos of school year events. The new website is www.obboe.org.
