Volunteers provide produce for food pantries

SPARTA — Throughout the summer, Pass It Along volunteers have been busy overseeing two charity gardens that provide fresh produce to local food pantries - the Sunset Vista Garden in Lafayette and the Hardyston Charity Garden.

Volunteers at both sites have been working diligently to plant, water, weed and harvest a variety of vegetables that are later donated to individuals in the community who utilize the pantries to feed their families.

This effort has resulted in families having access to healthy, fresh grown vegetables to supplement the nonperishable food items they receive from the pantries. The program has helped to develop healthier, sustainable eating habits for those in need of assistance.

To date, the volunteers have harvested tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli, green beans, peppers, lettuce, squash and cucumbers.
