The Wallkill Valley Regional High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America conducted a community service project by assisting the Sparta Evangelical Free Church during the 2014 Breakaway Camp held July 7-11. T he Agency DE3 Church program focused on Discover, Decide, and Defend; children in grades 1-6 served as Special Agents in a week of fun as they examined eye-witness reports, physical proof, and biblical accounts to uncover and defend the truth about who Jesus really is.

Wallkill Valley FBLA Chapter President Carly DeOliveira and Vice President Patrick Endrikat coordinated the closing event, a carnival. The FBLA members hosted various game stations including Plinko, spin art, face painting, ring toss, bull rope-n, skee ball, putt ‘n win, football toss, parachute game, potato sack relay, and a bounce house. “Win a goldfish” was a big hit at the event; 35 children took home a fish in a bowl. FBLA members also distributed hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, and cotton candy. Mickey and Minnie Mouse greeted the children at the opening of the Carnival with free balloons. The children were presented three individual puppet shows by the FBLA members.

This project enabled FBLA members to recognize the importance of service to the community and focused on developing leadership skills in the areas of team building, delegation of duties, and collaboration with other organizations.
