Franklin school discusses Sussex Tech tuition

Franklin Borough School Business Administrator William Sabo told the Board of Education on Aug. 25 he received a letter from Wallkill Valley Regional High School Superintendent Robert Walker regarding his mission to eliminate the Sussex Technical School tuition.

According to the letter, Sussex Tech is charging each high school that sends students to the school a per-student fee. Walker has been stressing that local high schools have limited funding resources to pay this fee and they cannot easily raise additional revenues to pay it. Although this is legal, it is unfair to the local high school and takes dollars away from the students at the local schools.

Walker recently took over at Wallkill Valley High after the retirement of Ed Bolcar. He was previously the superintendent of Kittatinny Regional High School, and during that time, Sussex Tech was funded by the county. He was retired for seven years before taking over for Bolcar, and Walker believes the tuition money would be better spent for the needs of the local school.
