‘60s favorites Gary Puckett and The Union Gap to perform

The Newton Theatre presents Gary Puckett & the Union Gap on Friday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m.

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was one of the successful musical groups of the 60s, when they achieved worldwide prominence. Puckett's voice garnered six consecutive gold records and top 10 Billboard hits. Signature hits include "Young Girl," "Woman Woman" and "Lady Willpower."

Puckett and The Union Gap have sold more records in 1968 than any other recording act, including The Beatles. Puckett is one of a few artists whose first five releases went gold. He played a performance at the White House for Prince Charles and Princess Anne by special invitation of the President. Puckett has also made more than 50 television appearances, including a PBS special aired in August 2001.

Puckett and The Union Gap’s hit single "Young Girl" was reissued by popular request in England where it reached number one and achieved a Silver Record Award for the second time, a full six years after the song was initially released. Their "Greatest Hits" album is one of CBS Record's best selling "Collector's Series" albums today.

Puckett was a founding member of the successful "Happy Together" Tour playing to sold out performances in more than 100 cities nationwide. Puckett was invited to tour with The Monkees on their national reunion tour, which established itself as the major box office success of the 1986 touring season.

In 1992 Puckett went to Europe and recorded "In Europe", released in the US in 2001 and later went on to release his first ever Christmas CD, "At Christmas”. In March 2002, Gary released "Live", a collection of hits recorded live and featuring the song Home, dedicated to the men and women defending our country with their lives.

Puckett performs to standing room only crowds doing more than 150 performances each year. He currently resides in Clearwater, Florida with his wife and family.
