The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its eighth fall season of the Challenger Soccer Program for special needs children.

Parents of boys and girls age 5–18 with physical or mental challenges are invited to join this program. Scott Luker, a resident of Jefferson Township, will return to manage the league.

The games will be played on the large side field of Fireman’s Field, located at 750 Route 15 South in Lake Hopatcong with the first game scheduled to take place on Saturday September 20, 2014, at 10 a.m.

This program offers players the chance to participate in one of the most popular sports worldwide. Participants will play with the same equipment and by the same rules as any soccer game with the exception that they have the option to use the “buddy” system for assistance. Every player on the roster plays in the game, and no score is kept. Fundraising efforts have been succesful so the registration fee (jersey, cap, and award) will be waived for this season.

Registration forms to play, manage, umpire, assistant coach, serve as a team parent, or become a “buddy” to a player are available at the Jefferson Township Recreation office located at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, as well as in the lobby brochure racks at the Jefferson Township Municipal Building and the Jefferson Township Public Library.

Registration forms will be distributed throughout the Jefferson Township school district as well and can be downloaded from www.jeffersontownship.net – Residents tab to Forms Center to Recreation Department.

To get a registration form mailed or e-mailed, contact the Jefferson Township Recreation Department at 973-663-8404 or CPUNTURIERI@jeffersontownship.net or Scott Luker at 973-270-8356 or at slairforceone@optonline.net.
