Who says that golf is a tough game to play? Not the way it was played by those who participated in the Bourbon, Barbeque and Blue Grass Golf Outing held at the Black Bear Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 11. When you add bourbon, a barbeque banquet and blue grass music it is bound to be fun regardless of how well you play on the golf course.

Prizes were awarded to the top three teams in the event with additional prizes given to the golfers who were the top performers in the closest to the pin and long-drive skill events. At the end of play, the Wagner Abreu, John McGinnis, Antonio Rodriguez and George McNichol carded a total score of 142 to be declared the winner. Each player on the team received a free twosome to play Ballyowen Golf Club and an Oakley sweater.

Second-place honors went to the team of Bob Tschinkel, Mike Harley, Al Izzi and Dave Bruinooge, who carded a score of 160 earning each player a free twosome at the Wild Turkey Golf Club and an Ashworth sweater. The third-place team of Wayne Waleck, Chris Waleck, Tom Nelson and Kevin Walker were given prizes of free twosomes at the Black Bear Golf Club and an Ashworth polo for their score of 169.

A 15” tee shot on hole No. 11 won Vin Riwaldi the closest to the pin competition, with John Lava and Samantha Kra won the men and women’s long-drive contests. Each received a golf bag for their winning performance.
