FRANKLIN — Daniel Schneider was appointed as a new full-time police officer Franklin Borough on Sept. 9.

He will be the 12th full-time officer in the department.

Another conditional offer of employment to a 13th officer is underway and has been approved by the Borough Council.

The department originally started with 14 full-time officers at the beginning of Mayor Paul Crowley’s tenure. That number was reduced and the borough found that the lack of personnel taxed the department’s resources and ran up overtime expenditures.

“My feeling is we should go up to 14 people to eliminate the overtime,” Crowley said.

With the new officer appointed and another being offered a conditional employment, the department will increase to 13 full-time officers.
