Gladys Ann Sledge

    Gladys Ann Sledge, 79 years old, passed away at Saint Clare’s Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover, N.J., on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, surrounded by her family. Born in Passaic, N.J., she was the daughter of Conrad and Mary Weigh. She was a resident of Hardyston Twp., N.J. since 2006. Prior to that she resided in Butler, NJ for 44 years.

    Gladys graduated from Pope Pius XII High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing, both in Passaic, N.J. After graduation she was head nurse for the hospital’s medical-surgical department. She married Louis Sledge in 1959 and she put her nursing career on hold to raise five children. Gladys continued her love of nursing by working at Chilton Hospital and several nursing homes where she provided tender, loving care. After retiring, Gladys started her own craft business, Ornamental Occasions. Working with her husband, Louis, she created many beautiful handmade items which were sold at local craft fairs. She enjoyed gardening and baking. Gladys will always be remembered for the numerous family gatherings she hosted. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle RC Church in Hamburg, N.J.

    Gladys was a dedicated wife and mother who was always there for her family. She is survived her children, Michael Sledge and his wife, Beth, Cynthia Rose, Thomas Sledge and his wife, Sharon, Patricia Campbell and her husband, Thomas, and Brian Sledge and his wife, Olesia. Cherished by 10 grandchildren and a great granddaughter. She is also survived by her loving mother of 105 years, Mary Weigh and her four sisters, Marilyn Hudson, Janet Quinn, Frances Collins and Mary Carol Fleming.

    Relatives and friends are invited to meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Jude the Apostle RC Church, 4-24 Beaver Run Road, Hamburg, N.J. at 11 a.m. Entombment to follow at Immaculate Conception Mausoleum, Hardyston Twp., N.J. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gladys’ memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
