Hundreds of girls will be gathering in Florida, N.Y. on Sunday, Oct. 12 for the third annual Girls World Expo, hosted by Straus News.

The day-long event — created by local teen girls for local teen girls from the tri-state area — will be filled with seminars, performances, demonstrations, vendors and fun.

Last year's Girls World Expo was a huge success, so much so this year required a bigger venue to host it.

"We basically out grew last year," said Varinda Missett, President of Girls World Expo. "We were at capacity last year... It will be twice as big as last year."

The event this year will be held at the Sports Fitness & Fun Facility in Florida, N.Y.

Registration last year was around 300 and this year numbers are already at 570 girls and counting.

On top of registration, there are a "record number of Girls of Merit" nominations this year, Missett said. Locals were able to nominate girls between 11 and 18 years old who through their actions, activities, leadership and positive influence on others have proved themselves exceptional members of the community. Ten girls were chosen and will be awarded at the brunch prior to the show.

What to expect
The event will host 12 diverse seminars for girls including a nutritionist who will talk about healthy body, healthy living; What Boys Think of You panel where high school boys answer girls questions; How to Become Leader in the Community; The Text Whisperer — decoding boys texts and cyber safety; Questions You Can't Ask Your Mom — no moms allowed; and a Drum Away the Drama where girls beat drums to work out their aggression.

The Chester Body Art Studio will also host an aerial yoga for girls to try along with free Henna art.

A fashion show will feature real local girls from sizes 2 to 22. This show celebrate's a girls' healthy body and with girls modeling ready-to-wear clothes, prom dresses, and some boys in tuxedos as well.

An acapella group made up of high school students will sing.

And a Girls Outta Know booth will teach girls how to change a tire, check the oil or tire pressure in the car.

There will also be 50 local vendor booths featuring everything from cake decorating to self defense demos to homemade soups and jewelry. For the parents there will also be booths on prep schools and college prep, private schools and college SAT training.
