Crystal Springs hold annual member championship tourney

Forty golfers competed at the Crystal Springs Member appreication championship tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Ballyowen Golf Course.

The top performer of the day was Anthony Fioretti, who carded a 1-over par 73 to claim the 2014 Member Appreciation Tournament championship and a 7-Star weekday membership valued at $3,700. Bret Trenkmann finished second with a score of 78, winning a sweatshirt and a free round of golf at the Ballyowen Golf Club and Bob Spetz finished third place spot with a score of 82, earning him a sweatshirt and free round of golf at the Wild Turkey Golf Club.

The individual low-net winner is determined by subtracting the golfer’s 18-hole gross score from his or her handicap to determine the net score. At the end of play, Don Hemberger, Gene Komorowski and Hannah Pekarek each carded a net score of 70 with Hemberger claiming the first-place spot based on a match of scorecards to break the tie. Komorowski captured the second-place spot with Pekarek ending up in third place.

The top golfer in the Lady’s low-gross category was Donna Wallerius with a score of 90, earning her a jacket and free round of golf at Ballyowen Golf Club. Bruce Hinchman’s score of 71 was good enough to win the Callaway title earing him a set of Callaway x hot-2 irons.

Bret Trenkmann claimed his second prize of the event with his closest to the pin shot on hole #4 which came to rest 14’ 1” from the pin with Hannah Pekavek earning a second prize for her closest to the pin performance on hole #11 landing 1” 9” from the hole. The longest drive on hole #14 was made by Demetrio Cutri with Joan Huffine claiming longest drive honors for the ladies on the same hole. All of the skill event winners were rewarded for their efforts with a jacket.

A putting contest was once again help prior to play challenging the golfers to make a putt that was the closest to the target golf hole on the Ballyowen putting green. Ron Frost’s putt which ended up just 29 feet from the hole was good enough for him to win the contest and earn a Crystal Springs Golf Resort Gift Card.
