— “The courses are fast, flat and scenic, traveling through historic sites and the beautiful Delaware River,” says Robie Mackerley, director of the Tristate Classic Race coming to Port Jervis on Sunday, Oct. 26.

“We have a record number of runners again this year and we’re expecting nothing short of a spectacular event for participants, sponsors and our communities," said Mackerly, who is also president of the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the race. A portion of the proceeds will be donated in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The event includes 10K and 5K courses with the starting line on Jersey Avenue and the finish line in Riverside Park, both in Port Jervis. Registration will be held at Riverside Park (just behind the Erie Depot Station), where the runners can listen to music, stock up on water, and get ready to run. Participants can register in person on race day or online ahead of time.

The 5K race stays in Port Jervis while the 10K runners ranges to the area beyond. Pace cars are provided for both races.

There will be music all along the course, with water and Gatorade distributed to the runners. The on-course musicians include Walt Edwards, Tyler Laput, Amador Laput and the Eldred High School Chorus, Key Elements. DJ Soul Pringle will get everyone’s blood pumping before the race and dancing at the awards ceremony afterward at Riverside Park.

George Lufty of Texas Lunch, one of the top sponsors, will serve hotdogs, hamburgers and sides in the park after the race. Other sponsors include the Bon Secours Charity Health System and the Neversink Media Group.

Medals will be awarded to all age groups, male and female, as well as to the top three overall 10K and 5K winners.
