Tri-State Actors Theater presents a concert reading of Pine, the first selection for the 2014-2015 New Plays Reading Series.

Pine is a new two-act comedy by Eugenie Carabatsos. The reading will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 25 and begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Gallery at The SpringBoard Shoppes, 145 Spring St., Newton. Admission to the reading is by donation.

Pine is a charming and funny new play about a family on the brink of chaos and the holiday guest who might push them over the edge. The setting is the White’s home on the Christmas Tree Farm in upstate New York. Each Christmas, the White family gathers to mourn the anniversary of Colin White's death. The trouble is, Colin won't go away.

The readers include actors Jenelle Sosa as Julie, Jason Szamreta as Mike, Christian Rohde as Teddy, Tom Walker as Colin, Mary Ann Hay as Rita, Patricia Durante as Rachel and Nicholas Wilder as Miles. Following the reading there will be a talk back and reception with the playwright, Eugenie Carabatsos, the play’s director and cast.

Carabatsos, a graduate of Wesleyan University, is an emerging playwright based in NYC. Pine is the winner of the Trustus Theatre Playwrights' Festival and the Mountain Playhouse Comedy Award. It was produced by the Trustus Theatre in August 2013, a production which won BroadwayWorld's Award for Best Play in South Carolina.

Pine is the second piece by Carabatsos that has been read by Tri-State. Last spring, Tri-State presented the premiere production of Heels Over Head by Susan Goodell, which was part of Tri-State’s NPRS the year before. This fall Tri-State Actors Theater was one of 67 recipients from nine countries recognized recently with The 2014 International Centre for Women Playwrights 50/50 Applause Award.
