Oh! My aching head! Can Chiropractic help headaches?

Headaches can be a real pain in the neck! This is true in more ways than one. When pressure on the nerves and blood vessels in the neck are caused by spinal misalignments (aka. subluxations) the result can be a whopper of a headache.

A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal adjustment therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches and that those who stopped chiropractic treatment after four weeks experienced a continued benefit in comparison with those patients who received a commonly prescribed medication.

A careful examination may determine that you have a subluxation, and an adjustment by your chiropractor may put you back on the road to recovery.
