Susan B. Soodsma

    Susan B. Soodsma, 72, returned to her heavenly home on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. Mrs. Soodsma, daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (Vermeulen) Blanchard Jr. was born October 21, 1942 in Paterson. She grew up in Glen Rock and Mountain Lakes while summering in Green Pond. Mrs. Soodsma resided for many years in Frankford Twp., moving to Hardyston Twp. seven years ago.

    Mrs. Soodsma graduated form Mountain Lakes High School in 1960 and received her degree in elementary education from Glassboro State College in 1964. She taught for many years at the Frankford Twp. School from which she retired.

    Mrs. Soodsma is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert P. Soodsma; daughters, Hope Douma and her husband, Brian, of Wimberley, Texas, and Alyson Kanet and her husband, Fred Jr., of Hardyston Twp.; grandchildren, Krystal B. and Emilee E. Kanet; brothers, Douglas Blanchard and his wife, Carol, of Newton and Brian Blanchard and his wife, Wendie, of Stillwater; brother-in-law, Thomas N. Soodsma of Vero Beach, Fla., and a niece and three nephews. She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Steven J. Soodsma.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94 (1 Vanderhoof Ct. for GPS) Vernon. Interment will follow at North Hardyston Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday one hour prior to the service, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers and contributions, the family requests for friends and relatives to recall a fond memory and celebrate Susan’s life.
