Chamber to host seminar to raise fraud awareness

    The Vernon Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar at the Vernon Senior Center to help raise awareness and educate local businesses and the public on how to detect and prevent fraud on Nov. 12.

    The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a meet-and-greet and the seminar will begin promptly at 7 p.m. There will be an opportunity to network after the presentation between 8:00-8:30 p.m.

    Guest speakers Laura Reilly of PNC Bank, Jennifer Hopper of Lakeland Bank and Philip Tom of Elavon Merchant Services.

    The presenters will discuss how to detect counterfeit currency, what to do if you receive a counterfeit bill, how to avoid becoming a victim of bank fraud and phishing scams, credit card charge-back prevention and compliance upgrades for credit card machines.
