Congressman Scott Garrett (R-Wantage) easily outpaced Hackensack Democrat challenger Roy Cho in the 5th Congressional District race Tuesday.

Garrett earned his seventh trip back to Washington D.C. after early voting results showed him far ahead of Cho.

With 40 percent of precints reporting, Garrett held a 58 percent to 40 percent lead.

Cho, a lawyer, ran on a campaign highlighting a push for infrastructure investments and attacking Garrett's vote against ending the government shutdown last year.

Garrett had argued that he had voted other times to end the shutdown and said that the country's trillions of dollars of debt remain an "underlying problem."

This is the seventh election that Garrett has won by a lopsided margin.

The 5th Congressional District seat encompasses the counties of Sussex, Bergen, Pasaic and Warren.
