Despite Sunday’s a cold and windy weather, hundreds of county residents turned out to honor the Sussex County veterans during the 14th Annual Salute to Military Veterans parade and ceremony at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

Normally held outside, the ceremony was held indoors due to the driving wind along the parade route.

Sponsored by the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services and the Veterans Committee, the event was a somber one meant to show appreciation for those who served their country in times of war. Many tables manned by representatives of various veteran’s-oriented organizations lined the inside of the Richard’s Building with information about programs and benefits available to our veterans.

Following the ceremony, hot dogs, a variety of cakes and cookies. The county freeholders distributed a special 2014 anniversary pin designed by Cassandra Conklin of the Wantage School to the veterans who attended.
