Legion post plans Oratorical Contest

    The American Legion Post No. 423, will sponsor an Oratorical Contest for high school students younger than 20 years of age and who are enrolled in the 9th-12th grade.

    The student must be a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States. Interested High School students should contact Former Commander Dr. Clifford Williams at 973-697-8675 for complete information.

    The contest will be held in the American Legion Post 423 meeting room at 28 Legion Road, Oak Ridge, on Friday evening, Jan. 9. The subject of the oratorical contest is the “Constitution of the United States”.

    The winner of this contest will then compete in the Morris County American Legion Oratorical Contest that will be held on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015 at 8 p.m. in the American Legion Post 423 meeting room.

    The successful competitor will compete in the district contest that will be held on Sunday,March 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Post No. 157, Branchville, NJ. The winner of the district competition will then compete in the New Jersey Department American Legion Oratorical Contest that will be held on Saturday, March 21, in the War Memorial Building, Trenton.

    The winner of the department contest will receive a $1,500 scholarship and a paid all-expense trip to Indianapolis, including a chaperone, to compete in the national contest. There are also scholarships for the second- to fifth-place winners.
