Skylands Gallery plans January art show

WANTAGE — Skylands Gallery and Studio will hold its January Show, entitled "New Beginnings" on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 6-10 p.m.

The show will feature roughly 100 original works of art by Skylands Gallery member artists: Carol Chave, Rima Hamade, Lisa Lopez, John Maione Jr, Janet O’Neil, Diane Suter and Bruce Young.

The community will be able to view these works of fine art and enjoy an evening of complimentary food, beverages and live music. The live music will be by Sussex County musician, Peter Lister and members of the Bighamton, N.Y.-based band, Milkweed. The band describes their music as pure Americana. All artists are locals from the Skylands Region of New Jersey. Many will have not only originals for sale but hand-signed prints ranging in price from $25-$50.

The artists of Skylands Gallery will welcome Paula N. Ashfield from Under My Wing Avian Refuge, located in Wantage. The refuge is a “no-kill” exotic bird sanctuary founded in 2007. Four Skylands Gallery artists, Suter, Lopez, Maione Jr, and O’Neil have created original works to benefit Under My Wing. These works depict birds Under My Wing is caring for or has cared for in the past. The artists are contributing three hand-signed prints of these originals to Under My Wing for its upcoming 2015 fundraiser.

In addition, the originals are for sale in the gallery through the month of January, with 50 percent of the sale price going towards Under My Wing. If you would like to find out more about Under My Wing, visit www.undermywing.org.
