Police are probing an apparent break-in to a warehouse where 20 classic cars were being stored in the borough.

An investigation is underway into the reported theft of 20 keys from the vehicles, as well as extensive damage to the cars.

The burglary, theft and criminal mischief was reported on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 10. The incidents are believed to have occurred sometime between Jan. 7 and Jan. 10.

Classic car parts were taken from numerous vehicles including a motometer from a 1925 Flint, which is considered extremely rare, according to Franklin police.

Numerous windows and windshields on the antique cars were damaged.

"A lot of them are inoperable," Franklin police Det. Nevin Mattessich said.

Police ask that anyone who comes across any antique car keys, classic car parts or hears anybody talk about coming across such parts, including the motometer, are asked to contact or email Franklin Police Department Det. Robert Vander Ploeg at rvanderploeg@franklinpd.org or 973-827-7700 extension 237 or Det. Mattessich at 973-827-7700, Ext. 231 or nmattessich@franklinpd.org.
