The Ebony Hillbillies bring rootsy, homegrown style

Based out of New York City, The Ebony Hillbillies are bringing their rootsy, homegrown style to the Sitnik Theater on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m.

Reviving a lost art form and American legacy, The Ebony Hillbillies, have successfully created a following that has bridged a gap in audiences in Pop, Country, Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz and beyond while maintaining their grassroots credibility. Their 19th century string dance band sound was a key element in the genesis of jazz and virtually everything after.

The ensemble led by Henrique Prince (fiddle, vocals) and Norris Bennet (banjo, mountain dulcimer, guitar, vocals) — featuring Gloria Thomas Gassaway on vocals and bones, William “Salty Bill” Salter on acoustic bass with A.R. and Newman Taylor Baker on washboard and percussion — creates an untamed and joyful vibe that echoes across the generations and transcends all racial and cultural boundaries.

Tickets for The Ebony Hillbillies are $22.50 for adults and $15 for children under 12. All ticket orders for concerts, jazz, and special events increase $5 day of performance. Tickets may be purchased online at centenarystageco.org, at the CSC box office in the Lackland Center at 715 Grand Ave. Hackettstown or by calling the box office at 908-979–0900. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and two hours prior to performance times. CSC also operates a second box office during the season at 217 Main Street in Hackettstown open Monday through Friday 3 to 6 p.m.
