February is 'Choose Kind' month at Sussex libraries

In partnership with the local one Book/One Community Committee, some Sussex County libraries will feature programs based on two books that feature kindness.

One Book/One Community of Branchville, Frankford, Lafayette, Sussex, and Wantage annually engages “as many community members as possible to read a selected book with the purpose of building a school-community partnership.”

This year the theme is “Choose Kind” with the book, "Trouper" by Meg Kearney for grades K-4, and Wonder by R. J. Palacio for grades 4 through adult.

The library system will support the One Book program with displays, programs, and bibliographies on the theme.

The Main Library, Sussex-Wantage Branch, and Dennis Branch will display bulletin boards where patrons may add their own precepts to Mr. Brown’s (a teacher in Wonder).

They also will display jars of ideas for Random Acts of Kindness Week, Feb. 8- 14, and a vase of branches where patrons may tie on a card with a kindness they know about. Trouper will be read at several Preschool Story Times, Wonder will be featured at some book club meetings, and Wonder art projects will be offered during some after-school Young Makers programs.

Films and other events are in the planning stage.

Some of these events may require registration. Go to the Kids and Teen pages at www.sussexcountylibrary.org to find up-to-date information.
