Drug prevention program planned in Jefferson

| 20 Jan 2015 | 01:50

The Jefferson Township Middle School PTA and the Jefferson Township Municipal Alliance will host “Hidden in Plain Sight” on Friday, Jan. 30 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Jefferson Township High School, 1010 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge.

This educational exhibit, presented to prevent youth drug use, is suitable for parents, adult community members and any other adults working with young people.

An actual simulation of a teenager’s bedroom will be on display for participants to observe, becoming familiar with where and how teens might hide drugs or paraphernalia. Seemingly innocent items, commonly used by youth, could actually indicate a substance abuse problem.

This awareness event, presented by The Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities, a program of The Center in Newton, will allow adults to be more proactive in helping a young person who might be using alcohol or other drugs. Hear from school counselors, prevention specialists, law enforcement and a local lawyer about current drug trends and how to prevent youth substance abuse.
