Stage adaptation of Newbery Medal Award Winning ‘Holes’

The Centenary College Theatre Department will be presenting Louis Sachar’s Holes Feb. 6 to 8 on the Centenary Stage at the Little Theatre, 400 Jefferson Street, Hackettstown.

Directed by Centenary senior, Cody Riker, Holes depicts the story of 14 year old Stanley Yelnats’ time spent in Camp Green Lake where every day he is forced dig holes under the hot Texas sun. Adapted from the book, which won the National Book Award and Newbery Medal, Holes is full of Stanley’s unexpected discoveries: local history, buried treasure, tall tales, and true friendship.

Cody Riker is currently a senior Theatre Major at Centenary College of NJ. As an actor he has appeared on stage in productions of "A Christmas Carol," "The Imaginary Invalid," "The Producers," "Urinetown," and has also appeared in the feature film "Hands of Stone" and the web series "Spirit Hunters."

Currently, Riker is the Performing Arts Director for Camp Louemma located in Sussex.

“As someone that always likes a challenge, I thought this was the right time to bring this show to the Centenary Stage,” states Riker. “Holes deals with issues relevant in today’s society such as racism, homeless teens, and the idea of controlling our own destiny."

Holes cast and crew includes: Michael Clinton (Long Island), Sasha Onishchuk (Long Island), Cody Riker (Wantage), Dominick Garantino (Andover), Ameer Copper (Newark); Ernest Scarborough (Trenton), Jessica Del Valle (Hackettstown), Rachael Diamond (Hopatcong), Yentl Oliver (Irvington), Janet Corey (Hackettstown), Nicolette Kolezar (New Brunswick), CJ Lawson (Hackettstown), Mike Bade (Hackettstown), Cina Gabel (Vernon), Tom Farber (Hackettstown), Angelina Taystra (Phillipsburg), Quiomarie Munoz (Cherry Hill), Lisa Kosak (New Providence), and Stephanie Anderson (Mount Arlington).

Tickets for Holes are $12.50 for adults and $10 for children under 12. There is a special children’s performance on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. All tickets are discounted to $5 each. Performances are Friday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. Holes is appropriate for ages 9 and up.
